I’m Gerard, a Belfast-based photographer with a particular interest in documentary, event and photojournalistic photography.

I originally became interested in photography through travel, street photography and photographing the landscapes and architecture around me. Over time, though, I found myself increasingly drawn to people and to the moments that happen naturally around public events.

That changed significantly in 2026 when I began photographing protests, marches and public events in Belfast. Since then, my work has expanded into news, sport and community events, including the Belfast City Marathon, Belfast Half Marathon, Pride events, political demonstrations, parades and other events across Northern Ireland.

What interests me most is capturing moments that feel genuine rather than staged: expressions, interactions, atmosphere and the small details that help tell the story of an event. I particularly enjoy working in busy, unpredictable environments where good photographs often depend on anticipating what is about to happen and being in the right position when it does.

My photography has been published by the Belfast Telegraph, and I’m continuing to develop my work in documentary, news, event and sports photography.

Alongside my more curated work, I also publish larger galleries from many of the events I photograph. Particularly with sporting and community events, I like being able to make photographs available to the people who were actually there and may otherwise never see an image of themselves from the day.

I’m always interested in photographing events, demonstrations, sport and public life across Belfast and Northern Ireland.
